Jumaane's Public Advocate Campaign Also Continues To Build Momentum With Endorsements From Two Progressive Political Clubs

NEW YORK: Jumaane 4 NYC submitted its second strong financial disclosure report to the NYC Campaign Finance Board (CFB) on Friday. To date, his campaign has raised more than $119,000 in matching funds and received more than 2,000 individual contributions-- more than any other Public Advocate candidate. The report also showed that Jumaane received 85% of his campaign funds from donors in New York City.

All campaign contributions went through a thorough vet to comply with the New York Communities for Change (NYCC) Real Estate Pledge  to refund donations received from the real estate lobby or corporate PACs. While many other Public Advocate candidates have welcomed contributions from the real estate industry, Jumaane 4 NYC returned more than $2,250 in contributions to real estate interests that violated NYCC's pledge to date.

The filing period was between January 12-January 21. In just ten days, Jumaane 4 NYC received more than 250 contributions, 93% of which were $250 or less from local residents that qualify for the 8x1 matching fund. 88% were $100 or less, and the average contribution currently sits at $96. To date, Jumaane 4 NYC has raised more than $192,000 and more than $119,000 in matching funds. Matching funds from the CFB are expected to come through near the end of next week.

"Though other candidates in this race rely on funding from the real estate industry, our campaign's fundraising operation continues to run full steam ahead as continue to increase the amount of small dollar donors within our grassroots base across the five boroughs," said Campaign Manager Trip Yang. "We're going to continue galvanizing and expanding our base of grassroots volunteers as we enter into a critical period of this race."
In addition to his strong filing, Jumaane today announced his campaign has been endorsed by the West Harlem Progressive Democratic Club and the Ernest Skinner Political Association as he continues to build his grassroots campaign to be the #PeoplesAdvocate.

"I'm excited and honored to have the support of the West Harlem Progressive Democratic Club and Ernest Skinner Political Association in our campaign to be the People's Advocate," Jumaane said. "These grassroots groups are powerful, progressive forces in New York City politics, so I look forward to working with them as we enter into the final stretch of this competitive campaign to continue our momentum and ensure that this city becomes a progressive beacon for all."

Corey Ortega, Democratic District Leader, 70th Assembly District, Part D, West Harlem Progressive Democratic Club said, "As a Council member, Jumaane Williams initiated program oversight hearings and recently introduced a bill to put a moratorium on the heinous HDFC Third Party Transfer program that has stripped homeowners of their equity and rights. West Harlem has the largest HDFC stock in the city. West Harlem is sure that he will bring this same level of attention to affordable housing as Public Advocate, and so we are proud to give him our endorsement."

Hassan Bakiriddin, Ernest Skinner Political Association's President said, "The Ernest Skinner Political Association is excited and honored to support a proven progressive leader like Jumaane D. Williams. Jumaane Williams has the integrity, tenacity and leadership to represent all New Yorkers as NYC Public Advocate".

Gricel Ortiz-Thompson, Vice-President, West Harlem Progressive Democratic Club said, "Jumaane Williams has been a consistent and powerful advocate for people of color, delivering real results as both an organizer and a Council member. In a community as diverse as West Harlem, Williams is the clear choice for Public Advocate and we are proud to endorse him."
